DHP Invests in WittGen, a US Startup Advancing Generative AI-Based Drug Development

Converting low-cost bulk cell RNA data into high-value single-cell data, cutting costs by 95%
Selected for the US White House's cancer-conquering program, collaborating with global pharmaceutical companies and the world's leading cancer centers

Digital Healthcare Partners (hereinafter DHP, Managing Partner Yoonsup Choi), an investment firm specializing in digital healthcare startups, announced on May 4 that it has invested in WittGen, a US medical AI startup developing a virtual patient profiling platform based on single-cell generative AI.

Developing a single new drug takes, on average, more than USD 2 billion and over 10 years, yet the failure rate of clinical trials exceeds 90%. In oncology in particular, the clinical trial success rate is only 3.4–8.3%, and the drug response failure rate in Phase 2—which largely determines overall clinical success—reaches 72%. One of the key causes is the "lack of patient stratification," the inability to precisely include and screen the patient groups likely to respond to a drug.

Because of the complex intratumoral heterogeneity of cancer (diverse cellular mutations), if it is unknown how each cell type responds to treatment, anticancer drugs risk missing true efficacy and discovering dangerous toxicity too late.

Traditional clinical data analysis relies on tissue-level averaged data such as bulk cell RNA sequencing (about USD 50 per sample), which ignores the heterogeneity of individual cells, and thus has structural limits for precise patient stratification. Single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics analysis can overcome these limitations, but the reality is that sequencing costs alone exceed USD 4,000 per sample, analysis is slow, and even that is only possible after securing large patient cohorts over long periods—so adoption across the industry remains very low.

WittGen solves this problem with generative AI technology. WittGen's core technology, B2SC (Bulk-to-Single-Cell) generative AI, converts the low-cost bulk cell RNA-seq data held by pharmaceutical companies into data at the level of single-cell analysis. Furthermore, it can also convert standard pathology images (H&E) into single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data. Through this, pharmaceutical companies can achieve precise patient stratification with roughly 95% savings in single-cell sequencing costs and 93% faster analysis speed. WittGen's B2SC technology has completed academic validation, achieving top-tier performance as measured at ICLR 2025, one of the world's leading AI conferences, and has also completed US patent registration.

Based on this technology, WittGen provides 'LEIBER-X,' a companion diagnostics SaaS platform that can be used throughout the entire clinical trial cycle. LEIBER-X is applicable regardless of therapeutic modality—including antibody-drug conjugates (ADC), small molecules, immuno-oncology drugs, RNA therapeutics, and cell and gene therapies—and features a rapid pipeline that delivers per-patient analysis reports for trial participants within 48 hours.

WittGen has rapidly validated its technological capabilities on the global stage. This past January, it was selected for the 'CancerX 2026 Accelerator' program, part of the US White House's cancer-conquering project 'Cancer Moonshot.' In particular, WittGen applied in the 'Clinical Trials Reimagined' category and was included among the final 12 teams out of 40 finalists worldwide.

WittGen is recording rapid revenue growth in the global market. Since its global launch in the second quarter of 2025, it has achieved 12-fold year-over-year revenue growth in the US and European markets. Moreover, it is actively collaborating with pharmaceutical companies and biotech ventures in the US and Korea, delivering results such as discovering new anticancer targets. It also presented research at SABCS 2025 (San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium) and AACR 2026, in which it pre-emptively identified rare cell clusters associated with resistance to an antibody-drug conjugate (T-DXd) in pre-treatment samples from HER2-positive breast cancer patients. In addition, it is collaborating with the world's leading cancer centers, including the Moffitt Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Mayo Clinic in the US.

WittGen is a startup headquartered in Silicon Valley, USA, co-founded in 2022 by Korean-American founders CEO Sangyoon Lee, a Berkeley MBA graduate, and CTO Minwoo Jung, a graduate of Purdue and Georgia Tech. This investment round included DHP as well as follow-on investment from Nautilus Investment, WittGen's existing investor. The investment amount is undisclosed. DHP, with a dedicated team of medical and bio experts led by Managing Partner Yoonsup Choi, a specialist in digital healthcare, plans to support WittGen in becoming a key player in the global drug development market.

WittGen co-founder Minwoo Jung said, "When promising drug candidates are shelved because the right patient groups cannot be found in clinical trials, patients lose treatment opportunities and society bears an enormous loss," adding, "We aim to grow into a standard platform that allows global drug developers to leverage single-cell-level precision insights without cost burden."

DHP Managing Partner Yoonsup Choi said, "WittGen seeks to solve the most fundamental problem in drug development with the differentiated approach of generative AI," and added, "WittGen has been widely recognized for its potential through top-tier academic validation and collaboration with multinational pharmaceutical companies, and we will do our utmost to support its rapid growth into a key player in the global AI drug development market."
